Corrections Policy

Accuracy is central to our work. When we get something wrong, we intend to correct it openly so readers can see what changed and why.

Our Commitment

We are committed to correcting factual errors in our published work, whatever their source and however they come to our attention.

How to Report an Error

If you believe something we published is inaccurate, please tell us through our Contact page. Helpful reports include:

  • The article title or page address.
  • The specific statement you believe is wrong.
  • Why it is wrong, with a link to supporting evidence where possible.

Online messaging is not yet operational, so error reports cannot be sent through the website yet. If you have new information that goes beyond a correction, you can also submit a story.

How Corrections Are Evaluated

Reported errors are reviewed against the original sources and any new evidence provided. We assess whether the published statement was inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading, and how significant the error is to the article's meaning. Review time varies with the complexity of the issue.

Minor Edits and Substantive Corrections

  • Minor edits fix spelling, grammar, formatting, or broken links without changing meaning. These may be made without a published notice.
  • Substantive corrections fix factual errors that affect a reader's understanding, such as an incorrect figure, date, name, or attribution, or a misrepresented finding.

How Corrections Are Disclosed

Substantive corrections will be noted on the affected article with a dated correction notice that states what was wrong and what has been corrected. We will not silently change factual claims.

Updated Information

Sometimes an article is accurate when published but later affected by new data, research, or events. In those cases we may add a dated update explaining what has changed. Updates are distinguished from corrections, which address errors in what we originally published.

Editorial Independence

Correction decisions are made by our editorial team on the basis of evidence. We do not change or remove accurate reporting because of pressure, complaints, or the interests of the people or institutions involved. Our wider principles are set out in our Editorial Standards.
